What is Giza Cotton?
Giza cotton is grown in the Nile Delta region of Egypt. The combination of alluvial soil, a dry climate, and the specific flooding cycle of the Nile produces a cotton fibre that is significantly longer, finer, and stronger than the cotton grown in most of the world. The extra-long staple length — typically above 38mm — is what sets Giza apart.
The most prized grades are Giza 45 and Giza 87, used in high-end shirting. At Aces Studio, our Giza cotton shirts use premium extra-long staple Giza cotton woven into a smooth, lightweight fabric that drapes well and gets noticeably softer over time.
What is Regular Cotton?
Most shirts sold in India use standard short-staple cotton — typically Shankar-6 or similar Indian-grown varieties with a staple length of around 25–28mm. This cotton is perfectly functional. It is durable, easy to care for, and widely available. But the shorter fibres mean more loose ends in the weave, which is why regular cotton feels slightly rough to the touch and tends to pill over time.
Mid-range shirts in India — the ones priced between ₹800 and ₹2,500 — almost universally use this fabric. It works. It is just not exceptional.

Why It Matters for Indian Summers
In India's climate, the difference between Giza and regular cotton becomes very obvious above 30°C. Regular cotton absorbs moisture but holds onto it — which is why you feel damp and heavy after a humid morning. Giza cotton absorbs moisture too, but the longer fibres release it more quickly, so the shirt dries faster and feels less clingy through the day.
For office wear specifically — where you need to look sharp across a full day — Giza cotton is the practical choice. It holds structure without being stiff, looks presentable through the afternoon, and does not develop the damp look that mid-market cotton shirts often do by 2pm.
